The Liam:Live Story

Watershed?

1995-1997

Liams first ever band. It was terrible. It was brilliant. We all loved it! Original Dirgy Indie Britpop, the band formed when Liam was 15 and after an abortive attempt on keys, Liam settled on playing Bass after countless jam sessions in his mum and dads front room with James (rhythm guitar far right). A handful of local gigs and a trip to a Leeds recording studio saw the band release it's one and only EP, Which Way Now at a show in the legendary Red Shed in Wakefield. The band didn't last long after that but the seed was sown.

The Tourettes

1999-2001

Liam joined local Castleford rock covers band on bass guitar. Early incarnations saw several singers come and go (including an audition for Richard, Watersheds singer) until, one day, a giant appeared with a bass guitar (Bigady Bear, Johno Rollinson Far Left) and the band informed Liam he was the singer now. Original Pop Punk songs were written, many gigs were played including the opening of Xscape. Demos were recorded with "Party Parcel" Pat (don't ask!) and the infamous Wrecked in Wrexham sessions with Julie Winfield. a big local following was built up and it seemed for a while like the band was destined to actually do something cool and interesting. Alas it ended in tears. The band carried on. Liam didn't carry on with them!

Venetian Effect

2002-2004

An established Originals Indie Folk band from the Sheffield area, Liam joined the band once again taking up the mantle of Bass Guitar. Following in the foot steps of the amazing Neil Newsome was always going to be a challenge and it wasn't really surprising that the band strayed from its roots to a slightly dirtier and rockier sound as a result. Within weeks a mammoth acoustic recoding session was completed, followed by a full recording session. There weren't that many gigs before the band split and went it's separate ways but the recordings still stand up well today and if Liam does ever go down memory way to listen to old projects, this is one he often returns to.

Silverline

2004-2006

Liam joined silverline playing a mixture of Indie Rock covers on bass. We had some fun times and some good gigs. The July Braais stand out in memory as being epic parties and gigs. It wasn't the most exciting project but it was always fun

Dead Empires

2007-2008

Liams one and only attempt at Lead Guitar saw Liam reunited with Julian (bass), Frazer (Drums) and Steve (vocals) from Venetian Effect days. Musically Original Indie Rock with Lyrics heavily influenced by the Manic Street Preachers. Gigs followed culminating in the release of the This Model Life EP.  The band ran out of steam when Lead singer Steve called it a day. There were some interesting songs in the pipeline there as well!

Shameless

2008-2018

Formed from the ashes of The Tourettes who had continued on in Liams absence for many years. Pop punk, Pop rock and rock covers followed up by original pop punk/rock.  Liam hit his song writing peak in this era. A band which for better and worse Liam will probably always be associated with. More comebacks than Kiss, more fallouts than World War 3 but we had some admittedly great times together. Like the ex you really know you shouldn't go back to, somehow this band just kept pulling you back in. For Liam, *the* line up will always be Jace "The Bass" Sivorn, Lee Brook, Jimmy "Jim n Bones" Fisher and Tom "Jambone" Blackburn, although the band wouldn't have done half as well without the contributions of Damien Campbell, Johno Rollinson, Andy Watson, Matt Duggan and Jon Smithson. Probably 95% of the best times on stage came with this band. Probably 95% of the worst times on stage came with this band. No regrets.

Last Seen Wearing

2009-2010

Back to bass for side project Last Seen Wearing with the lovely Vikki Malarkey on Vocals. Pop rock covers for the masses, lots of fun to play in and probably shorter lived than it should have been!

JFK & Blood Sugar Sex Magic - A Tribute to RHCP

2011-2014

Probably the first really musically mature cover band Liam was in and also his first ever time playing keys along with singing, many times they were told that they were one of the best bands people had ever seen but they were probably a bit too cerebral at times. The band took on songs that other bands just couldn't do and nailed them. All four members shared a love of the Red Hot Chili Peppers which saw them add BSSM as a side project. It was the true start of a close friendship and over a decade of collaboration with Andy Watson (DJ Regicide!) which also saw them combine in Shameless, The Shambles, The Nameless, Chilifornication and, the short lived but brilliant Critical Acclaim. It's a musical collab that is still going on to the present day.

The Nameless

2014-2019

Possibly Liams favourite project and a time when he combined the furious energy of the Shameless days with the refinement and control of the JFK days. Liams first project with the Worlds third best bassist and second best lover, Joe Scotcher (far left). The line up changed a few times over the years but it feels right that the original line up is pictured here. Honourable mentions to Jace the Bass, Andy Watson and Joe Dobson. There were some stunning gigs, the first Ossett Fake Fest being one (*that* Beastie Boys video) and numerous excellent Biker Rallies. The bands final gig at the Bridge Rats Rally in Aug 2019 was possibly the best Liam has ever sung at a gig and an amazing way to sign off.  After 24 years of pretty much continuous gigging, Liam decided a break was in order. We all know what happened in Jan 2020 and by the start of 2021 Liam realised that after 18 months he wasn't missing music and unofficially retired.

Chilifornication

2017-2018

Liams second run as Anthony Kiedis this time for RHCP Tribute Chilifornication. Lots of fun in this band and great musicians to boot. At this point Liam was in 3 bands and something had to give. Never truly feeling at home in a costume, this was the project that didn't stay. The band carried on and went from strength without him until Covid hit.

Electrocity

2017-2019

Liams first foray into the world of Pop music and corporate events. Lots of Ibiza 90s dance music, funk, soul and pop. High quality recordings and a showreel were produced and some good gigs were booked for the band. In the end the line up was never stable enough and for Liam continuous dep musicians stole some of the joy of it. When the keys player Otis relocated away and left the band it never really had a chance. Some fun times though. The laughter in the photo is real. It's not even at Liams ridiculous trousers.

Redwood

2022-2023

The comeback...  after almost 3 years out of music something stirred. Seeing an ad for a singer for a local band he impulsively sent a reply and before he knew it, he was back in a band. Rock covers from across the ages. Great musicians and lovely people, it was an absolute tonic to be back playing and in such good company. Friendships made.
